Kallur sets new 60m Hurdles world record.

In speeding her way to a 7.68s 60m hurdle victory at the BW-Bank meeting in Karlsruhe Susanna Kallur eclipsed one of the oldest world records the sport has known.
Set back in 1990 by the Soviet Union’s Ludmila Narozhilenko, 7.69s had stood since Kallur was just nine years old.
Only the women’s 400m record set by Jarmila Kratochvilová back in 1982 is older than the record Kallur erased so elegently this afternoon.
From the gun Kallur marked herself as different class and lead comfortably to the first hurdle before executing flawlessly on the super fast Karlsruhe track.
“This is absolutely unbelievable,” said a triumphant Kallur. “I can’t put my feelings into words. In comparison with my race last week in Stuttgart, today was much better.”
Kallur will now be considered the red hot favourite for victory in the world indoor championships being held in Valencia, Spain next month.
When asked if her record breaking feat now made her favourite for the Olympic gold in Beijing Kallur would only comment, “There are some Americans who have better 100 metres hurdles times than I do.You certainly must consider them ahead of me.”
Kallur didn’t have to look far to spot one of her main American rivals in the battle for Olympic glory.
Although an upset was never on the cards once the Swede had left the blocks, Lolo Jones held her form well to clock 7.77 personal best.
The mark elevates her to ninth on the all time list.
