Jones results annulled

The IAAF have announced that all the results of sprinter Marion Jones dating from September 2000 to September 2007 have been annulled.
Jones has also been instructed to return all awards, medals and prize money won during that period which means her 5 olympic medals and 3 world championship medals will have to be given back to the authorities.
A ban of 2 years for use of performance enhancers has also been passed down by the world governing body meaning Jones will be ineligible for competition until the 7th of October 2009 when she will be 35.
The ban is however primarily of ceremonial value and of little consequence as Jones has already announced her retirement from the sport when the scandal broke.
The news means that the athletes who finished behind Jones in the Sydney Olympics and the World Championships in Edmonton will now be in line to be promoted to medal positions.
These promotions will be decided by an Olympic committee next month but leading voices in the IOC have already implied that greek silver medallist Katrina Thanou will not be awarded the gold medal.
Thanou accepted a 2 year drugs ban in 2006 for her role in the Athens Olympic scandal along with Kostos Kenteris.
Along with being stripped of her individual medals the IAAF have also recommended that all members of the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams be stripped of the medals they won with Jones in the team.
The American Olympic association have already made public their intention to fully accept the IOC ruling and not appeal should the USA be stripped of their relay medals for Jones infraction.
