A splendid 19.88 by Wallace Spearmon in the 200m and a world junior record in the steeple chase were the highlights of the final track and field meeting of the year in Deagu, South Korea.
Just a year after becoming the 4th fastest man in history over the half lap distance with a 19.65 run at the same meet last year Wallace Spearmon claimed a sprint double after winning the 100m in 10.11 and the 200m in an incredibly swift 19.88.
In the women’s steeple chase young Kenyan Nyanga Bisobori set a new world junior mark of 9:24.51 to add to her Osaka fourth place just two months ago underlying her undoubted world beating potential.
Elsewhere and Liu Xiang received a great reception as he bounced back from a surprise defeat on his home turf to Dayron Robles in the 110m hurdles just under a week ago.
His winning time here was a relatively sluggish (for him anyway) 13.20.
Another rapturous welcome was reserved for Yelena Isinbaeva with much of the crowd staying to watch her comfortably win the women’s pole vault with a first time clearance at 4.80m long after all the other events had finished.
Lauryn Williams claimed a much needed win in the 100m with a time of 11.33 and fellow American Arik Wilson capped a fine triple jump performance with a best on the night of 17.50m
Tatyana Lebedava reached out to 6.90m on the way to winning the women’s long jump – complete with flaming red hair.
