Ohuruogu's Olympic flame burns bright.

Christine Ohuruogu will be allowed to compete for Great Britain at any future Olympic Games a 3 man panel announced yesterday.

After missing 3 random out of competition drugs tests the 23 year old London based athlete was banned for a year and under current BOA rules – would be stripped of eligibility for any future Olympic Games representation for Great Britain

Jones results annulled

The IAAF have announced that all the results of sprinter Marion Jones dating from September 2000 to September 2007 have been annulled.

Jones has also been instructed to return all awards, medals and prize money won during that period which means her 5 olympic medals and 3 world championship medals will have to be given back to the authorities

Pound agrees to meet with Conte.

Out going WADA supremo Dick Pound has sensationally agreed to meet the infamous Victor Conte to talk about the war on doping.

In previous interviews Conte had said that whilst the IAAF were happy engage him on such matters WADA were less that receptive to his ideas but Pound said, “(Conte) said 'Wada has never called me' - I'm calling him. We're setting up a meeting

The IAAF had announced a doubling of the potential punishment for first time drugs offenders.

Offenders could now face a ban of up to four years for first time offences if ‘aggravating circumstances’ are involved

Raging Hormones

The International Olympic Committee have announced that disgraced Greek sprinter Katerina Thanou is unlikely to be upgraded from the silver medal to the gold medal for the 100m at the Sydney Olympic games following Marion Jones disqualification for drugs offences.

The president of the Olympic movement Jacques Rogge stated that athletes must be ‘clean’ in order for an upgrade of position to be possible

Paula Radcliffe
Paul Radcliffe yesterday won her second New York marathon and her first race since giving birth to baby Isla 10 months ago.

The marathon world record holder managed to hold off great rival Ethiopian Gete Wami in sunny and dry conditions with a fabulous sprint finish to record a time of 2 hours, 23 minutes and 9 seconds

A word on patriotism in sport

They say that sport is the cousin of war and to the layman of athletics, the person who once a year tunes into the television coverage of the latest major athletics event, what side an athlete is on matters a great deal.

It represents a solitary chance to express the patriotism that goes unmarked in every other vestige of society
